Этимология: "The specific epithet is a noun in apposition in reference to "Sméagol", a fictional character created by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Hobbit (1937). Sméagol is an upland, semiaquatic, large-eyed, creature inhabiting the Misty Mountains of Middle Earth who has long, thin limbs bearing digits with bulbous tips, large webbed feet, and large protruding eyes—characters found in the new population being described herein" (первоописание, с. 150).
