      Etymology: "The genus name is a compound word derived from two different words. Baal is a Mayan word for “devil.” “Balrogs” are fictitious demons from the “Legendarium” and “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is masculine in gender" (op. cit., p. 32).
